So glad I never finished my PhD, I would've never been able to get a spot anywhere! As a classmate joked, "Dude, our only hope is to get a job at a white supremacist university!" (He was joking, but he was also woke). Of course this discrimination is not limited to academia, and while it's nothing to gripe about (why envy the company of fools?) but multiple times in the 2010s I saw less-qualified DEI hires leapfrog me and benefit ever since in the corporate world too – for sure HR managers are saying "We can't hire a white guy" any given day. It's an odd thing to experience second-hand because it shows that the fake economy primarily depends on maintaining the superficial from all angles, and how "culture fit" (i.e. a euphemism for intolerance) is the limiting factor, not merit.
