Was her resignation letter original?

Expand full comment

She probably downloaded it from the internet after googling "great resignation letters" or had the AI write it.

I would laugh out loud if was not nursing a half asleep baby right now 🤣🤣🤣

Shh. The baby is sleeping…

MY wife asked an interesting question. Do you suppose that Claudine Gay used ChatGPT to draft her resignation letter?

Expand full comment

I heard it was Nixon's.

Keeping her on faculty keeps the problem alive; so now it's OK to be a professor who commits serial plagiarism, but just not the president?

Expand full comment

agree - hopefully the university (i.e. students) will take care of this.

Expand full comment

I hope the Elise Stefanik show will be adding its first recurring character.

Expand full comment

I agree. She should be taken to court and punished for her plagiarism!

The fact that Harvard didn’t fire her speaks volumes about Harvard’s utter lack of expectation of a black woman to achieve the same results, or to be held to the same standards of scholarship and honesty, as a white man.

Next step is to search through Harvard's faculty across all departments and check how many white or Asian tenured faculty total 17 publications or less on their record.

If nothing else, that could uncover evidence of systemic racism at Harvard.

Expand full comment

Harvard wouldn't fire a white man in the same circumstances. It's very VERY difficult to fire a tenured professor, because of the tenure rules universities themselves have set up; an accusation of "plagiarism" (which does not have a precise definition) is very unlikely to be an egregious enough misconduct to justify a firing (under the rules). It would end up in court, and Gay would be very likely to win, as a matter of contract law, in front of even the most conservative judge.

Expand full comment

The only reason Harvard wouldn’t fire a white man in the same position is because they’d never hire a white man so unaccomplished, mediocre and dishonest.

Expand full comment

I disagree. Yes, it would be difficult to terminate Gay because of the political ramifications regarding a black woman professor. But it would not be impossible. If the granting of tenure was based on the “misconduct” associated with plagiarism of research writing by Gay that ultimately led to her gaining tenure an honorable institution would terminate the plagiarist. She “stole” the intellectual product of others such as Professor Carol Swain. Is this a parallel to the idea of “stolen valor”.

Expand full comment

Excellent point. Stolen valor... well said.

Expand full comment

The quality of the evidence is not good. The plagiarism standards are too amorphous. A decent team of lawyers would rip up Harvard on this, and Gay would win.

Expand full comment

If Harvard was what it pretends to be, it would go after dishonesty as hard as possible.

Expand full comment

Sure, but the current plagiarism rules do not make a lot of sense, IMO. This is why there are people defending Gay (including people she allegedly plagiarized from). The whole thing is a mess.

Expand full comment

Havard is a major mess.

Expand full comment

Sir

where would that team of decent lawyers come from? I presume Gay would not enlist Harvard Law on her behalf, today.

She is dirty as well as the school is. Harvard needs to sweep clean its recent history and beg for forgiveness by opening all schools within Harvard, for public scrutiny and comment.

Black or White, Gay is a fraud.

"where would that team of decent lawyers come from?"

LOL, it's pretty easy to find woke lawyers! What do you think the law schools have been churning out? There are hundreds if not thousands who would take her case pro bono, just for the publicity. And don't make the mistake of thinking that because they are woke, that they are not good at their job of getting the results that they want. They are VERY good, that's how the woke took over in the first place!

Expand full comment

I still disagree. Harvard has a reputation that is already tarnished by Gay’s behavior; keeping up their defense of her will only make it worse. Reputation once lost is very hard to regain, and Harvard’s graduates and financial supporters or future employers still have a say.

Expand full comment

Besides, they’d probably have to fire half their faculty if they really cared about plagiarism.

Expand full comment

That is really disgusting. Plagiarism in academia should be the absolute NO NO. She should be fired or reduced to minimum. Less students signing up for her courses. Reducing her ability to be the prof for key degree courses would also help.

She resigned

She got the resignation out not the Luger. She didn’t leave because she thought herself at fault.

She’s staying on as faculty… how I wish I were a student there now so I could enroll in her classes and submit plagiarized essays for each assignment…

We should have tee shirts made that say "Claudine Gay -- Harvard's prize-winning plagiarist," and distribute them on campus.

They did the same with Biddy Martin at Amherst (and she is also on the board of the Harvard Coporation…). Gotta root out these crummy sweetheart deals for awful presidents.

“Biddy Martin” is a real name?! Sounds more like a Stepford Wife, or “Buffy and Midge’s friend, from the club.” (Must be said through clenched teeth...)

She was the goofiest ever. Totally spineless but a perfect implementation tool for the woke movement. Very light on qualifications except for moving quickly through the administration ranks at the U of Wisconsin and being gay. Google her and see how she tried to weasel out of any culpability or responsibility for the guide to inclusive and politically correct language guide for the Amherst community a few years ago.

That is only until she can line up a new gig where her talents be more appreciated such as the U.N. Commission on Human Rights.

Naturally she dragged in "racism" as the reason for her not so hasty exit. This is a gal who got her job due to racism (affirmative Action) telling us dopes that it was only based on racism that she got the boot. Unfortunately the over promotion of folks like Gay and Kendi denigrate the real scholarship of Glenn Lowry, John McWhorter, Tom Sowell, Roland Fryer et al.

Not sure replacing one piece of rot with another that is equally rotten is a victory. I doubt Harvard has changed except to vet the next President more carefully. The poison tree of DEI is going nowhere. Hell her resignation letter clothed her as a victim of racism, instead of owning her role.
