Carol Swain- an intellectual with common sense. A rare gem.

I have always admired her graciousness...

It’s not as rare as it looks. What’s rare is for them to be noticed. Raving maniacs tell you they’re “intellectuals,” but really aren’t. The others quietly state the truth and let the rest figure it out. The maniacs keep screaming the lies at you, hoping you’ll start believing them.

Carol Swain for President!

Well, she thought the 2020 election was stolen. If she lost, we might not have enough courts on the land to certify she lost.

I applaud Carol Swain , not just that she has a keen mind and is an honest person with integrity. She has courage to be who she is and do it on her own merit. Not someone else's work. Plagerism is like any other kind of thievery. Woe to the lowest ones on the totem pole. Water seeks its own level.

Pres. Gay rejecting calls to account for or resign over blatant plagiarism shows how entrenched ideological adherence is rather than meritorious truth-seeking. I teach first-year (FY) writing and research at an R1 institution, and her and the Board’s cynical sacrifice of Truth infuriates me. Guess Biden won’t be the only high profile figure I use to teach plagiarism. SMH. Donate that $1 billion in lost Harvard alum donations to the new UATX or New College, some institution that isn’t antisemitic or mendacious, is that so hard these days?

How to ethically rewrite others’ words for our own purposes occupies our efforts to find gaps, counter established ideas, and generate novel knowledge that benefits society. To accurately track how we know what we know. She and Harvard compromise that mission. We sadly expect misrepresentation from Media, Fauci, and Biden over their moneyed interests and social justice ideology, now Harvard. The mask is further off folks.

Excellent work! There is no doubt that a White male would already be gone.

I object to capitalizing white or black, except as part of a proper name. The people you describe by these crude categories are not nations, nor do they inherently share anything but color. These words are not proper proper nouns. It is subjugation of language to political impulse. Stop it.

I will stop it when the woketards stop capitalizing all races but White. FO

Probably "f--k off".

Absolutely, positively, totally agree.

Considering the fact that the paucity of President Gay's scholarship was known before she was placed in that position, and it did not matter, a white male with so few qualifications would never have been elevated in that manner in the first place.

"A white male would probably already be gone."

And that really says everything, doesn't it? Color blind should mean exactly what it says and the standards by which people are judged should be the same, regardless of their race, religion, or gender!

A white male would not make it to that position anymore.

No joke - ditto 'corporate boards'. My husband is an esteemed academic and ran a large business consultancy for over 8 years in the securities litigation area. When it came time to step back I suggested he seek a board appointment. He consulted an agency which places people in such positions and he was told point-blank that as a white male his chances of landing a spot were very low indeed. It's a shame, as he has such a wealth of knowledge and experience in his area of expertise. Our world has abandoned merit and intellect for more superficial qualities that don't really matter when it comes to running a business.

The lady is restrained in her reaction, given all of the circumstances. I favor her method of looking at the overall patterns of conduct and responsibility - that Ms. Gay appears to have patterned her entire academic career on Prof. Swain's work.

Expand full comment

Appears to indeed. Her condition for remaining as Harvard president should be to facilitate regular workshops and teach courses on plagiarism...using her own dissertation as course readings. Swain could be a guest lecturer...

Ask Joe BIDEN - he's the 'Plagiarist in Chief' having ripped off many people including Neil Kinnock, Robert Kennedy, Hubert Humphrey and JFK. BIDEN had to withdraw from a Presidential run in 1988 because of his 'snatching' other people’s words. But Democrats consider plagiarism to be a feather-in-the-cap, as they just don't care anymore about morals and merit.

Excellent work, and this follow up with Carol Swain is dynamite. I love the way she defines herself as "mainstream"! Absolutely! Elise Stefanik is commenting on X that the "mainstream" media is not covering her plagiarism. I don't know as I gave up on MSM a long time ago. But it sounds plausible. God grant your scoop breaks through that particular "glass ceiling"!
