When it came time to step back I suggested he seek a board appointment. He consulted an agency which places people in such positions and he was told point-blank that as a white male his chances of landing a spot were very low indeed. It's a shame, as he has such a wealth of knowledge and experience in his area of expertise. Our world has abandoned merit and intellect for more superficial qualities that don't really matter when it comes to running a business.
