What do you expect? California has been a one party state for the last 25 years or so, and Democrats seem to prefer power to constitutional niceties. By every metric that matters to the average Californian - crime, education, homelessness, energy prices, housing, state finances, coercive mandates and regulations - Newsom has run the state into the ground. Yet Democrats vote like zombies for more of the same. It’s like North Korea, but with palm trees and better Mexican restaurants.
I had to fly into Anaheim on business last month. My Uber driver was a very pleasant Korean-American gentleman, and as we chatted, I asked how long he'd lived in California.
"All my life," he replied.
I asked what he liked about living there. For the record, I hadn't said a word about politics. But the question apparently opened a floodgate. He launched into a litany of complaints: the high cost of living, corruption, government waste, traffic, crime, and just about everything else that frustrated him about California.
So I asked the obvious question: "Have you ever thought about moving to another state?"
His answer surprised me.
"I can't imagine living anywhere else."
Maybe that explains something about California. It really is an extraordinarily beautiful state, with remarkable weather, scenery, culture, and an atmosphere that's hard to duplicate anywhere else. For someone who has spent his entire life there, leaving may seem almost inconceivable.
And perhaps that's part of why California can get away with problems that might drive people away from someplace less desirable. People may complain bitterly about the cost, crime, traffic, grime, waste, and corruption—not because they consider those things acceptable, but because the things they love about California still outweigh them.
Or, as my driver put it more succinctly after telling me nearly everything he hated about California:
I didn't ask. I didn't want to get into a political discussion. If he votes for the ruling political party in the state, I would have to seriously question his judgment. And if he votes for the Republicans or doesn't vote at all... I'd still question his judgment.
He’s good at projecting a well-spoken, relaxed, dismissive, and when required, an indignant tone..all on camera and in interviews. My conclusion is he is essentially a very duplicitous autocrat, acting as if he is a defender of “democracy”. On any given issue, he’s claiming democracy, while at the same time enacting laws to reduce transparency, push mandates, or dodging voter initiatives, like prop 36. Granted there’s a few bills during his term that I would actually agree with.
Pretty much every article on him exposes the same issue, his term is marked by a systemic lack of accountability. And I think he knows full well how the voting system is abused in California, while claiming he’s protecting voters. Democrats sure do have their pick of potential 28 presidential candidates, they’d be wise to keep their distance from him..but then again, it’s not as if folks like AOC or Harris would do any less damage to the country.
I am sure he did say that: when I was in San Diego.. 2012 last time.. and I have been there many many times: it is a beautiful state. Many of my best by the Ocean photos are from LaHoya .. and the water was actually clean waves good.. I could still swim in rough surf.
I took a cab from La Hoya to Coronado and had an Indian Cabdriver who was working on his programming degree to be a computer Architect. CALIFORNIA is a state where the income gap is as wide as the San Francisco bridge is long. Them that has "GETS".. and I am long time capitalists who worked all my life and later inherited some money.. not much from "friends" not family.. who had nothing no matter how hard they worked. Working for living is no way to make a living: Gavin Newsom the TOOTHY TRUSTFUND BABY .. his book is disgusting.. Greg Kelly talked about it. I won't buy it.. He is ALL HAIR and NO HAT Ok enough of that. and apparently follows the "YOU CAN'T BE TOO RICH OR TOO THIN IN CALIFORNIA". philosophy.. yes my in laws are RIP in Coronado. that is what my ex mother in law used to say. and she voted Democratic .. old blue dog democrat. I doubt she would vote democrat now. WHO KNOWS? some democrats just vote to get their sticker "I VOTED". :)
"How is this [secrecy and obfuscation] possible?" you ask. Simple answer: Newsom is a poster-child lying progressive politician whose only loyalty is to his own power and financial portfolio.
Keep pushing this. I hope more people realize the hubris inherent CA's leadership. And the hubris in many liberal leaderships who refuse to turn over documents. To anyone. Not even the Federal government. As citizens we must never relent and never surrender. Do they have something to hide? Well, duh! It's "I plead the fifth" one-thousand times.
Great article but unfortunately irrelevant since Grusome has been elected twice and at the end of his TWO terms. The damage to California is done, now someone needs to fix it!
The real important question is will Becerra continue his policies? Becerra is a hard worker and has earned his Law Degree. he benefitted from Affirmative Action but he worked hard.
That's definitely not what democrats who know of his work in DC say. Becerra is nothing but a corrupt CA democrat...the most degenerate politicians in the U.S.
:) exactly good question.. nut cuttin time. I am always amazed when I read a label and some really good things still come from California.. the nuts, wine, fruit snacks..
There’s no doubt that Newsom, the state Democratic Party, and their allies like the SEIU are up to their necks in various kinds of fraud: Medi-Cal, hospice, daycare, homelessness, election, and more. It’s all connected, and so exposing any piece will likely set off the rest, like a string of firecrackers. I can only imagine that Trump’s DOJ knows this and has been investigating. Sooner or later, those firecrackers will go off.
It's remarkable and sinister that a party which proclaims its devotion to democracy and popular participation is actually a cheap facade, laid over a vast and seething structure of criminal acts and dark money funding. These elements exist in both parties of course, but for the Democrats they are decisive. They wouldn't HAVE a party without ballot harvesting and NGO's and federally subsidized, subversive academia.
The entire premise, the bedrock, of FOIA is that agencies will comply with the law. It assumes that agencies and their agents will be honest and lawful because they have to be and they expect themselves to be. This isn’t Pollyanna stuff—for the worst of us it’s an understanding that there are consequences for crime and for the rest of us it’s how we choose to live our lives because we understand that without trust (and the expectation of punishment for those breaking it) the whole edifice collapses. That this is clearly no longer an organizing principle for the adult children running many jurisdictions is terrifying. Which is, of course, the point.
The other "Social Democrats" talk the talk, but Gavin has been walking the Soviet-style secrecy walk for a long time while trying to avoid the label. It will take the others years to catch up to him.
KIMBERLY GILFOYLE .. excuse me.. HE was MARRIED TO HER>> for 6 years.. :) and she was "the fiancee" of Don Jr. Trump.. yeah. :) whatever. Trump sent her to Greece to the ambassador.
There is a lot out there. He had an affair w/ .. let me think,, the woman that Don Trump Jr.. had a long time affair with.. he really hit the "single male" bachelor mode for a long time until he married his current wife.. :) she is left of Liz Warren. if that is possible.

Newsom is talented. He’s full of BS but he makes it sound good to libs and middle of the road voters. GOP beware.
Newsom is a slimy snake oil salesman, indeed!
One of the best I've ever seen. Makes a pile of shit look like cotton candy to the typical voter.
He is the CA American political leader version of the Islamist Mamdani of New York City, politically, not religiously ...
I’d say he’s one of the first socialist governors in the US.
Second only to Jerry Brown who took all the Death Row slime balls off death row. he was an autocrat who wanted to become a Priest.
Jerry Brown seems like a sensible moderate compared to Democrats today.
Socialist ... or Fascist ...

As long as the fools in CA allow this one-party dictatorship to exist, nothing will change...it will only get worse.

California is not diffferent than Minnesota.
The entire concept of "fraud" does not exist for Democrats.
its not a "concept" to Dems, it is their way of life that only ends if the truth comes out. Hence roadblocks to finding the truth....
agreed
And why is the mainstream media complicit?
“… an important question: What is Gavin Newsom hiding?”
The list is longer than a porn star’s johnson.
@Joe- I'm going to start using that line.
Feel free!
HIS WIFE who is a real piece of Work. What a pair.. they are.

She was married to Gavin, and engaged to Trump Jr. I think Gavin's current wife will bring about his downfall.
Where are things at now? Are you taking them to court over this obfuscation?
Tell us something we don't slready.kmow.
California is run by a cartel.
Do we need a No Kings march on Sacramento?
