The city is spending millions on groups that have offered an all-black drag show, “ancient Egyptian” healing, and free doulas for “Black birthing people”—potentially in violation of federal law.
Despite Lurie seemingly doing wonders for the crime here (significant drop since he assumed office), he’s still just as liberal as the rest of them. It’s a real shame for one of America’s most beautiful cities
This is just a way to pump money into the fraudulent leftist NGOs to enrich the few from the taxes of the many... the billionaires having fled the state.
I hope Harmeet goes after this and all of the fraud that goes on in California. This stealing of tax payer dollars needs to be publicized and hopefully convince the citizens to vote Republican for real fiscal responsibility.
Is it just me, but doesn’t this all sound like another variation on the popular Somali Daycare scam so beloved by Democrats as they sprinkle justice across the landscape of favored “victims groups”.
Every county and city in California allows its supervisor/council member to have a fund. It is a legalized, thinly veiled "pay for vote" system. Scores of non-profits get grants through this system. Guess how then the re-election becomes almost automatic. Unless there are term limits all the way down to the city council seats, this system is bulletproof. Even with term limits, there would be legal loopholes that allow the installation of a person who pleases the nonprofit industrial complex.
It is called community engagement. The most loud activists come from Democratic Socialists and non-profits and create an impression that they speak for the rest of the public. They disrupt school board and city council meetings, county supervisors meetings etc. They are public, in the face. Then the press gets involved, amplifying and supporting the activists' message. The silent majority meanwhile works, raises kids, pays taxes, and funds this positive feedback loop. Then they complain about their city government not working for them. Of course, city government works for the activists, not for them! But because the press tells them where the public opinion must go, they vote again for the same thing, and the circus goes on.
Yet another reason why non profits--none of them I don't care what side they're on--should get taxpayer money. If you want to run a non-profit go out and fundraise in the private and corporate worlds and see how you do. That's a better gauge of your value than secretly, and not so secretly in some cities, draining public funds.
I think we would find that the vast majority of non-profits would dry up and disappear and the country would be far better off for it.
It's all corruption, period. My wife is an L & D nurse at a smaller public SF Bay Area hospital with a very large percentage of uninsured, poor minority patients (incl. lots of illegal immigrants). Many of these women have little or no prenatal care, have multiple comorbidities, etc. It's a very stressful and difficult work environment. A local black doula program, financed partially with public funds, sends regularly activists who are arguing with doctors and nurses about...wait for it...medical treatments of these black mothers to be. These doulas have zero medical training. I repeat, zero medical training. Instead of providing comfort to those black women they rile them up against the (very diverse) medical staff and are often actually endangering the wellbeing of those black women, all in the name of fighting for "medical justice for black birthing people". It's absolutely disgusting.
Agree with everything except for the use of the left-extremist term, "minority." As an earlier commenter said, we need to call a spade a spade. We shouldn't thoughtlessly use their terms, because those are linguistic traps that lock you towards the wrong conclusions.
I understand and agree with your point about the language games that the Left plays. I used the term in a purely demographic way: black women (American but also African), Afghan and Pakistani women, Indian, Latinas from El Salvador, Honduras, Latinas from tribes who don't even speak Spanish, and of course a lot of women from Mexico, who are probably the majority in that particular hospital/unit. I don't consider them a "minority".
Well done article! It’s a shame that the professional government grifters keep finding ways (new and old) to steal taxpayer money for their own gain. What makes it doubly shameful is how they’ve forever stripped all credibility from 99% of government “run” initiatives. People vote for representatives at every level of government who lack the slightest ability to execute, monitor and audit their own programs.
I'm all for equality. Equity? Ya gotta work for it. Think of home equity: WE'RE the ones who paid into it all these years. YOU won't get any of OUR equity.

correction:
"one of Americas former most beautiful cities".
The fall of SF has been coming for years.
Used to live nearby and stopped going into the city back in the late 80's.
When we used to go in, we could not afford it but it was fun. Then it got so we had better things to do with our money.
take care
This is just a way to pump money into the fraudulent leftist NGOs to enrich the few from the taxes of the many... the billionaires having fled the state.
And then the NGOs donate money and labor back to Democratic candidates. NGOs are a Democratic scam to steal from taxpayers.
100%

"Race-based"? "Racialist"? Any more neutered euphemisms, Chris?
If Whites did this, it would be called "racist", "white supremacist", and "fascist" by all the propaganda media out there.
We have to start calling a spade a spade with the left extremist racist totalitarians. They won't reciprocate your euphemisms or your benevolence.

They want to nationalize this program in their lust to completely dominate American politics.

And on…and on…and on…restoration and honor never seem to be the answer. Politics and grifting seem to be the only way.
Not "politics." >>>Democratic<<< politics.
Not just "Democrats"--just in Texas alone, progressive RINOS are holding the Save Act hostage!
DEI is a grift. Black people say gimme gimme gimme gimme.....enough with this racist grift!!

I suppose people could just start offering programs only for whites and men and straight people and see what happens to prove the point.

Why don't they just take the money, put it in a big pile on Market Street, and make a huge bonfire?
Some of the buzziest of buzzword salad ever.
The USA is a big ship that can pull along behind it all kinds of junk boats like this one. But how many before the big boat comes down?
