looks like Americans are the top target for every criminal in the world.

There are entire office buildings in Russia whose entire business model is ripping off Americans. As long as they don’t run afoul of Putin and pay taxes and duties, they are safe. That’s from Brian Krebs’s book Spam Nation published in 2015. Enough with this toleration of robbery.

Why is one of my first thoughts “would radical Leftists think this fraud is a good thing?” And how can your somewhat normal moderate liberal support the Dems right now?

cowboybobb's avatar

Radical Leftists. A mythical creature that lives in the fevered imagination of wealthy rednecks.

You mean like antifa? when will the left get enough self respect to quit lying in public forums with people who know they are lying? You created Trump kept in the headlines as a victim during biden and got him elected again. And are you working on new policies that will attract the independents voters you need to win electi0ns? New leaders that appeal to the ordinary American. Do you enjoy wallowing in pity and self destructive behavior? Will you ever over come your hate and become winners again. One thing that is obvious today, you folks couldn't govern an insane asylum! Your a worthless bunch. To anyone but your yourself and certainly to America.

Why are many Dems looking the other way to allow fraud, or actively promoting NGO fraud for their political benefit? Could it be because they have no morals, the end justifies the means for them.?.

Thank you, open-borders Democrats, for introducing imported fraudsters en masse to our nation.

My ex sister in law married a Lebanese man. He brought 6 family members. They were all involved in a middle eastern fraud ring that set up car accidents between participants. Then they filed insurance claims, "went" to doctor visits and therapy and Medicaid was billed for all of it though no one ever went, they just signed papers. Everyone in the car got$10000 can for each accident. We reported it, nothing ever done.

They also ran credit card scams we also reported. Card companies didn't care. It wasn't until my niece was molested by him that they were caught incidentally and went to prison.

A nurse I worked with father was a doctor running Medicare Medicaid scams . Armenian. He got busted had to wear an ankle bracelet while he was still allowed to practice medicine.

No one deported. This was in the 90's in California

Car accident fraud was very popular with Russian immigrants in the 90es.

That is low rent compared to bankers.

dan brandt's avatar

Tell me which bankers have committed fraud to the tune of many billions of dollars. don't get tired of looking stupid? You've fallen off your horse too many times.

It is truly amazing that a state can pass a law that restricts an officer of the court from reporting a Federal crime, ie, illegal immigrants, already a criminal, committing additional crimes. Outrageous!

WTF, our country is screwed. On top of this we have Federal judges who go along with this nonsense and it takes months for higher courts to overturn this abuse. Even worse than the criminals getting away with this, is that the “law makers” and judges have no consequences for what I believe should be considered illegal and criminal actions.

Again, I repeat, we are so screwed.

Thank you Chris for pointing out the absurdity of this nonsense.

THG's avatar

And the media keeps propagating the myth that illegal immigrants have lower crime rates than American-born population. Well, if a) fraud is barely reported it doesn't make it into statistics and b) sentences are reduced based on the race and immigration status is concealed by the courts - that alone reduces numbers of immigrant crime rates substantially. Add the anger being whipped up against the billionaires by the media, and we are screwed.

Most older susceptible people usually watch a lot of TV. I'd like to see the government invest in some TV commercials warning people about these activities.

Ever notice who most of the protesters, in the day time, are in favor of the left and wacko policies? Old senile folks who seemed to be trying to make up for not joining the protests against Vietnam.

And I am one of that age group at 73 and find them disgusting, easily lead and actually on a permanent high. Losers.

Eric F. ONeill's avatar

And at least in the blue states, the government is fine with the fraud. Kind of makes you wonder if they aren’t benefiting…

cowboybobb's avatar

Who says the government is okay with fraud. Here's a clue for you: the credit card company is the actor that can bring charges not the state or even the consumer who reports the use of their credit card for fraud.

William Foster's avatar

Only for credit card fraud, not for bank fraud, mortgage fraud, Medicare fraud, tax fraud, and of course, cowboy fraud.

You need to quit sniffing the cow pies. Those fumes aren't good for you.

I have a client who is an FBI agent who worked on Medicare fraud. She told me once that they don’t even investigate for fraud under $1mm. I always wonder how many people know that and have kept their frauds just below that amount, because there is definitely a network of foreigners from many countries who seem to know how to rip off the US or its citizens with ease.

As both a life-lone (disenfranchised) Democrat and career prosecutor, there is enormous truth in what this detective is saying, particularly about how safe this felony scams are from effective prosecution.

I had never considered the twin issues - the functional immunity of non-citizens in Blue states (like Oregon where I was an elected prosecutor for 25 years) and the increasing refusal of states to extradite property crimes, even ones involving hundreds of thousands of dollars.

This makes these scams effectively bullet-proof from any real law enforcement.

No wonder you quit Democratic Party. It is a long way downhill before the blue states wake up. Argentina spent 90 years in the wilderness.

Turn off the money spigot to these sanctuary city states who don’t enforce the law. That will get their attention. They are all broke. They can’t print money. They can’t raise taxes because they are already too high. They will be forced to change.

Steven Brizel's avatar

This is why you should never respond to such calls or emails

Leiah Bat Ami's avatar

It’s not illegal to call ICE in blue states. There’s a hotline that anyone can call to make reports. Those who have been victims of fraud need to call local law enforcement. People also need to get smarter about where they leave their credit cards. Maybe do a simple AI fact check before making statements as fact that are not factual. Foreign fraud gangs are a real and is an important criminal issue that needs to be addressed at all levels. Making bogus statements to dramatize the political climate doesn’t help the effort.

I suspect This (Fraud) is going to get A Lot Bigger.

cowboybobb's avatar

Biggest rip off artists on the West Coast live in Silicon Valley. And they are not liberals. The likes of Peter Thiel. And slime ball techbros.

This is pretty much the attitude in blue states. Tech bros, mostly liberals initially, once they understand that talent and success in tech is rewarded by hate from their own liberals, they shift to the right, like Musk. It is fun to hate them, it is not fun to be one of them, working 80 hours per week for years. It is much easier to run a "Quality Learing Center " and make same millions effortlessly by playing a minority victim card.

The only sustainable way to stop this fraud, which has powerful political (for Democrats) and economic (for providers including churches/temples and hospitals) incentives, is to redo welfare from scratch. Defund and rebuild. If Americans can abuse it for corruption, it is a magnet for foreigners. Cut it at the source, and the illegals will go away.

Another way of saying the same thing: I am all for open borders. But only bilaterally, with other countries that have more generous welfare system than us.

Thou shalt not steal. Unless it’s from an elderly person, or from Medicare, etc. Was just hearing a story from a friend of mine that her elderly father got scammed out of some money using some gift cards he had to buy. The local grocery store where he was buying them alerted the family. I assume at this point everything is scam. Tell others everything is a scam.
